First released in 2016 on Netflix, the show began as an eight-episode sci-fi series set in the fictional town of Hawkins. It follows a group of kids in the 1980s after the mysterious disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp).
Created, written, and directed by the Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross Duffer), the series blends their love for horror, sci-fi, and conspiracy theories. Inspired by real-life events such as the Montauk Project, Stranger Things became a global phenomenon, with Season 4 accumulating 140.7 million views within the first 91 days of its release.
Now, the show is coming to an end. Volume 1 will be released on November 26, Volume 2 on Christmas, and the grand finale on New Year’s Eve.
In a post shared on October 23, Stranger Things announced that fans will also have the opportunity to watch the finale on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in select theaters across the U.S. and Canada.
While this is a major announcement, more details are still to come.
With longer episodes and sky-high expectations, the farewell promises to be bittersweet, a nostalgic goodbye after nine years of loving these characters and all their adventures.
